Note: Each municipality (kommune) decides which language centres provide its Danish courses. Some are run by VUC (adult education centres), others by providers such as Studieskolen, Clavis or UCplus. You need a referral from your municipality to join the free Danish courses, so contact your municipality first. Addresses, phone numbers and providers can change, so check the school's website or your municipality before visiting.

Integration: Beyond the Classroom
The schools listed above provide the structure, but Sprogcaféer (Language Cafes) provide the soul. In major cities like Copenhagen (The Main Library) and Aarhus (Dokk1), you can find free conversation practice.
The 5-Year Voucher & FVU
Remember: The Danish courses are free, but your right to them lasts up to 5 years from the time you can start, so don't wait too long. If you finish your DU exams, you can continue with FVU (Forberedende Voksenundervisning), which is free and focused on workplace reading/writing.
Practical Tips for Rapid Progress
- Connect School to Practice: Whenever you learn a new list of words at school, enter them into ourVocabulary Practice toolto move them from short-term to long-term memory.
- The Deposit:If you are self-supporting (for example working or studying), you pay a 2,000 DKK deposit before you start. You get it back, or it is moved to your next module, only if you complete each module within the time limit. Use structured study so you don't lose your money!
