The Golden Rules of Transfer (Forflytning)
In modern Danish care, manual lifting is forbidden if an aid can be used. The goal of forflytningsteknik is to use the citizen's own remaining strength combined with technical aids to move them safely. This protects your back and gives the citizen a sense of mastery over their own body.
Key concepts include using natural movement patterns (the way a healthy body moves) and ensuring stable weight distribution. If a citizen can stand up using their own legs, you should guide them with "nose over toes" rather than pulling them up.
Technical Aids (Hjælpemidler)
Mastering the equipment is a core skill. You must be proficient in using:
- Glidelagner (Slide Sheets): To reduce friction when moving a citizen up in bed.
- Loftlifte (Ceiling Lifts): For citizens who cannot support any of their own weight.
- Active Lifts (Stålifte): To assist citizens with some leg strength to stand for hygiene tasks.
The Legal Framework (APV & AMR)
Every Danish workplace must have an Arbejdspladsvurdering (APV). This is a living document that identifies physical and psychological risks. You have an Arbejdsmiljørepræsentant (AMR)—a colleague elected to ensure your safety rights are upheld.
Safety isn't just physical; the psychological work environment (stress, bullying, or threats) is legally protected under the same act. Reporting "near-miss" events is essential for long-term health in the SOSU sector.
